community as it celebrates the 30th annual Sugar Maple
Festival in downtown Bellbrook on April 18-20. The theme of this year’s
festival is Celebrating 30 Years. As always there will be numerous
activities for everyone in attendance. Entertainment includes live
music, a parade, children’s activities, crafts and food vendors. Other
activities include a 5K run and a dog show. Come be a part of the fun!

5K Race: The annual SMF 5k will be held
April 19 with a start time of 9 a.m. Registration will take place at 8
a.m. at Sugarcreek Elementary School (51 S. East St.). This is an Ohio
River Road Runners Club event so club race entry fees apply (Club
members $3; non-club members $6). The race is an out and back on
Washington Mill Rd. T-shirts will be for sale while supplies last.
Bellbrook Historical Society Walking Tour
(NEW!): The Bellbrook and Sugarcreek Historical Society will be
holding it’s first annual “Walking Tour” of downtown Bellbrook during
the Sugar Maple Festival. The Bellbrook Old Village is full of sites and
important events relevant to the development of Bellbrook over the past
200 years. Our Historical Society with it’s new home in the old
Sugarcreek Elementary building located at 51 South East St., Room 101
would like to invite everyone to participate in the tour. A map with
brief descriptions of each site can be obtained at the Historical
Society’s booth and Museum located at the Bellbrook Historical Museum,
52 North Main Street. Maps will also be placed at each site and the tour
can be started at any point along the way. The tour is an outside
walking tour with no admittance to any property. Please help us to
preserve the essence of our City by participating in this Walking
Tour to learn more about Bellbrook and it’s past. Please Contact the

Children’s Activities: The SMF offers
multiple activities for kids of all ages. Come to Bellbrock Park and
check out SMF NEW Children’s Activities. NEW this year, dinosaur dig,
fish pond, Plinko, Lucky Key Game, and a Tatoo Parlor. As Always the
SMF will have arts & crafts and a hula hoop and jump rope contests.

Citizen of the
Year: The 2008 Sugar Maple Committee is taking nominations for the 2008
Sugar Maple Festival Citizen of the Year. Worthy individuals being
nominated should a citizen of either Bellbrook or Sugarcreek Township,
18 years or older, have been active in making the community a better
place to live or performed a service that is above the call of duty.
Nominations should be sent to Bonnie Falzerano (c/o Sugar Maple
Festival, 2234 Tampico Trail, Bellbrook, OH 45305) and should include
candidate’s name, address, telephone number, reason for nomination (100
words or less), nominating person/organization’s name and contact
number.
Previous winners of the SMF Citizen of the Year
Award are Richard and Iris Black, John Dorn, Burma Fernandez, Mary
Frantz, Tom Frantz, John & Velma Roney, Carl "Doc" Wright, Dr. John

Crafts: The SMF will once again offer an
assortment of local and regional arts and craft vendors. Approximately
75 booths will line the streets. Returning this year among others are
Tracy Rohr with Earth Born Jewelry; Fran Linkowski with herb dips and
mixes; Jim Johnston will display grapevine wreaths and display pieces;
and Lisa Wilson with locally grown honey products. In addition, other
available goods include candles, sand art, magnetic jewelry, silver
jewelry, Native American jewelry, tie-dyed shirts, air brushed clothing,
doll clothes, lucky bamboo, bonsai, dog treats and country décor. For

Dog Show: The Fourth Annual SMF Dog Show is
Friday, April 18. Registration is from 6-6:30 p.m. behind Sugarcreek
Elementary. The categories are: cutest puppy (12 months and younger),
cutest dog (over 12 months), ugliest, smallest, largest, best costume
and silly dog tricks. Each of the above categories will award a first,
second and third prize trophy. There is also a Best of Show winner. The
winning dogs will be invited to participate in Saturday's parade. Food
and beverage will be available at the show. The rain date is April 19 at
the same time.
Entertainment: Will take place at Bellbrock
Park and in front parking lot of Sugarcreek Twp. Fire Station. All
entertainment is free. On Saturday, featured acts will include music
from various local artists, a performance from the Bellbrook Dance
academy and a Sugarcreek Township fire dept. extraction. Sunday
entertainment includes more music.

Food: The Sugar Maple Festival will once
again offer a wide variety of food for festival goers. o many choice, so
little time! Come hungry to the Sugar Maple Festival, because every type
of Festival Food favorites will be offered along Main Street. Giant pork
tenderloin sandwiches, smokehouse BBQ ribs, grilled
salmon and crab cakes, cajun gumbo or blackened chicken & rice,
delectible grilled pork chops, sirloin steak sandwiches, Dippin Dots,
frozen cheesecake on stick, frozen chocolate dipped bananas, pulled BBQ
pork, icees and icee floats, texas taters, fried bloomin onions, corn on
the cob, hot pretzels, smoothies, pita pocket sandwiches, apple flappins,
deep fried
pickles, firehouse 'firedogs,' specialty cakes and
baked goods, and the ever-popular hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries,
cotton candy, popcorn and soft drinks of all flavors. Its all here!
Free Shuttles: Run from the Bell Creek
Intermediate School on Upper Bellbrook to Bellbrock Park during festival
hours. The SMF Committee is currently looking for more drivers. If

Garden Club: This year the Bellbrook Garden
Club will provide information about the Emerald Ash Borer, encourage
adult and young gardeners with an opportunity to win special garden
inspired door prizes and offer an “Ask The Expert” where personal garden
questions will be answered. The club’s annual plant sale is Saturday May

Pancake Breakfast: The annual pancake
breakfast will be held Saturday, April 19 at the Bellbrook United
Methodist Church from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Park Activities: Bellbrock Park offers a
plethora of activity during the SMF. Situated in downtown Bellbrook, it
is the location for maple syrup, corn fritters, kettle corn and the
famous commemorative plate. Bellbrock also hosts live entertainment and
children’s activities. Other attractions include an educational display
from the Greene County Park District; planting activities from the
Bellbrook Garden Club; and the ever-popular “free” trees available at
the Bellbrook Sugarcreek Park District booth.
Plate Artist: The 2008 SMF commemorative
plate was designed by Monica Larson. Monica is a senior at Bellbrook
High School. Her drawing is of the "Three Sisters" that are located in
the Sugarcreek Reserve. The plates will go on sale April 14 at Dots
Supermarket. They will be sold at Dots through the following week. The
plates can also be found in Bellbrock Park and the info booth during the
festival. The limited edition 2008 SMF plates will be sold for $15.00.
Previous SMF plates can be purchased for $13.00, while supply last. If
you are unable to make it to the festival or if you are missing a plate
in your collection please call Holly Levine at 937-902-9055.
School Activities: The SMF Tree and Syrup
Jug is make an appearance at Sugarcreek Education Center, Happy Child
Pre-School, and Stephen Bell elementary on April 16th, 17th,
and 18th. The children will learn about Maple Syrup Making
and get to sample a maple flavored cookie.
Sweetheart Contest: The annual SMF
Sweetheart Crowning will be April 17th at 7:00 PM at the
Bellbrook Middle School.
